| Discussions of the research
findings
The french national research programme Politiques territoriales
et développement durable (Local policies
and sustainable development) was launched in 2003 and has so far
funded some 50 research projects. This conference is the first to
focus significantly on the work of these projects, also looking
at research undertaken in other programmes.
The event aims to present the findings obtained according to two
main themes, i) evaluation as regards
sustainable development and ii) actors of the sustainable territorial
management. It will also set the findings in the context of the
research carried out in other European countries or on a European
scale.
It also provides an opportunity for researchers and actors to meet,
allowing local actors to question the
knowledge provided by the scientific community on the still undefined
issues of sustainable development, and allowing researchers to measure
their findings against the expectations of actors in the field.
The event is organised with three threads :
• The presentation of the findings of the research projects
by two themes, i) evaluation as regards
sustainable development, which will be addressed both in terms of
constructing indicators and their use
and in terms of the evaluation processes; ii) the challenges facing
local actors in sustainable development, which will provide an opportunity
to question the institutionalisation of public debates in the name
of sustainable development and the emergence of specific professional
figures.
•The provision of a European perspective on the research
work by the presence of foreign speakers who,
at the end of each session, will provide a reference to research
on the topic carried out in other countries.
• Making opportunities to exchange and confront the various
findings of researchers, elected
representatives and professionals, and with conferees by taking
part in round table discussions at the end of each day. The conference
aims to bring together research, local government, and administration
representatives; regional development practitioners; and association
and professional representatives.
